What kind of person is the course intended for? Who will be my classmates?
People from all walks of life have benefited from the course. Perhaps a quarter may be professional farmers, gardeners, or landscapers, but the rest have included nurses, physicians, artists, nutritionists, computer experts, crafts- and tradespersons, homemakers, teachers, financial consultants, therapists, and many others.
Do I need gardening experience?
It's helpful to have some basic hands-on experience. Even planting a small plot or a few containers at home will give you a head start. The Pfeiffer Center also offers seasonal one-day workshops on basic gardening skills that are an excellent complement to the course.
What books are required or recommended?
Rudolf Steiner's series of 1924 lectures, known as The Agriculture Course, is required reading. Ehrenfried Pfeiffer's books are also particularly recommended. A wide selection of books on biodynamics is available from SteinerBooks; click here for a list of books by topic.
I have conflicts for some of the sessions. What can I do?
You can make up any sessions missed in this year's course in the following year (as long as your account is paid in full).
What are the payment options?
Tuition for the course can be paid in one, two, or five installments. Details of the payment plans are sent upon acceptance.
Is it possible to take an individual class?
The course is designed as a whole; sessions cannot be taken individually. See our list of upcoming workshops and events for our stand-alone workshop offerings.
Where is the course held? How do I get there?
Classes are held on the campus of Threefold Educational Center in Chestnut Ridge, NY, in the Pfeiffer Center Garden (on the Threefold campus), and at nearby Duryea Farm. Directions to the Pfeiffer Center by car and public transport can be found on this page.
