Sign Up - Pfeiffer Center

Activities at the Outdoor Lesson vary according to the season, the weather, and the ages of the visitors.

  • Fall visits include a guided "please touch" tour of the Jessup Center's collection of antique farm tools; meeting and helping care for Duryea Farm's animals (cows, sheep, chickens); and apple cider pressing.
  • Winter ecology walks feature a visit to our unspoiled forest, fields and wetlands, where children learn about topics such as animal hibernation and local Indian lore.
  • Early Spring visits include greenhouse work; planting; chopping firewood; churning butter; and carding wool.
  • Late Spring visits include a tour of the Pfeiffer Center's vegetable garden and a visit to the Pfeiffer Center's apiary (honeybees).

The cost of a visit is $75 per child (minimum $1,500, or 20 children); adults and chaperones are included in the price. Visitors arrange their own transportation (bus parking is available at our site) and bring their own food. Visitors normally arrive at 9:00 AM and leave around 1:30 PM.

Introductory discounts are available. To discuss your group's needs, please contact:
